Your renewable energy developer.

Crop2KiloWatt is a renewable energy developer focused on biomass based solutions.

We like biomass because it is available 24/7 and totally dispatchable. This means demand matching instead of weather restricted.

We are ideally suited to complement solar and wind – we fill the gaps – and we cost much the same.

Our Story

We began back in 2011 by testing various crops on a minesite in northern desert (Pilbara) region of Western Australia to establish how best to reduce their reliance on diesel. The mine produced massive quantities of water in order to keep their mine dry from natural ground water, and hated to see  this valuable resource running to waste.

Trials, primarily funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), were undertaken over a 2 year period and demonstrated the prodigious productive capability of Sweet Sorghum when irrigated in this environment. Results were so good that the mine was planning to invest in the process when the ore prices tanked and the mine was closed.

Then back in 2018 the mine was sold to new owners who soon returned it to profitability. They are now planning to invest in its long term viability and are keen to reduce costs by displacing as much diesel as they can.

Crop2KiloWatt is developing a new plan for the mine to supply biogas to do just that.

How it works

We grow energy crops in tropical regions wherever there is sun, land and water available – and feed these into an anaerobic digester which makes methane rich biogas as a wonderful, totally renewable fuel.
